CAMP PENUEL

How we started...

Camp Penuel became a chartered incorporation in 1973 to help fulfill the vision of Rev. Harry Douma.  At the time, Pastor Douma was serving a local congregation as senior pastor.  He believed God was leading him to “buy some land and start a children’s work.”

Some doubted from the beginning; however, with the support of his wife and the call of God, he obeyed.  He wanted kids who might never get the chance to experience life outside the city to do so with a positive Jesus-filled opportunity.  More than this, the camp would never charge the kids a penny.

Thirty-four years later, Camp Penuel is still in the business of Jesus and kids.  Since the humble beginnings, Penuel has seen over 57,000 campers, 50% of those have made a decision for Jesus.  The camp always has been and still remains free to kids across the Midwest.

Soon after the camp began, Harry felt he should begin by visiting 100 businessmen.  One acquaintance lead to another and then another as God moved on the hearts that received the vision.  Donations started as the goodness of what God was doing spread and donations multiplied.  There were and remain donations of every sort, from free advertising, highway billboards, radio and television time, as well as financial contributions.
